Estimate concrete volume with consistent units
Convert slab dimensions into volume and add an explicit allowance without mixing metres and centimetres.
Measure the volume you intend to estimate
For a rectangular slab, the geometric volume is length × width × depth. Use the planned dimensions and check which unit each field expects. This is a material-volume estimate, not a structural design or a recommendation for slab thickness.
Convert depth before multiplying
A slab 4 m long, 3 m wide and 10 cm deep has a depth of 0.10 m. Its volume is 4 × 3 × 0.10 = 1.2 m³. Multiplying by 10 as if the depth were in metres would overstate the result by a factor of 100.
Compare the example
A 4 m × 3 m rectangle; depths and allowances are examples, not design recommendations
| Depth | Net volume (m³) | With 10% allowance (m³) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 cm | 1.20 | 1.320 |
| 12 cm | 1.44 | 1.584 |
| 15 cm | 1.80 | 1.980 |

Try this in the calculator
In metric mode, use length 4 m, width 3 m, depth 10 cm and allowance 10%. Check for 1.2 m³ net and 1.32 m³ with allowance. Change dimensions only to match an approved plan.
Try the example ↗Make allowance a visible assumption
An illustrative 10% allowance gives 1.2 × 1.10 = 1.32 m³. The percentage is a planning input, not a universal requirement. Confirm an appropriate allowance and any delivery minimum with the supplier and the person responsible for the work.
Split irregular shapes into measured parts
For an L-shaped area, you can estimate separate non-overlapping rectangular sections and add their volumes. Do not count an overlapping area twice. Uneven ground and varying depth require measurements that a single uniform-depth rectangle does not capture.
Check before ordering
Confirm dimensions, units, the scope of the estimate and the supplier’s ordering increments. The calculator does not determine reinforcement, ground preparation, structural capacity or compliance. Use the result to discuss material quantity with the responsible professional or supplier.
